Welcome to our newest clinical campus medical students, residents and fellows,

Academic year 2007 – 2008  will bring excitement to the Danville and Wilkes-Barre campuses.

We are celebrating the opening of the Center for Health Research with its new library and teaching facilities. The Center for Advanced Medicine, the eight-story, 60-bed facility, featuring state-of-the-art cardiology services, including interventional cardiology and other diagnostic equipment, has its official groundbreaking this spring.

University School of Medicine and PCOM clinical campus medical student population has grown to 18, with rotating students numbering more than 300 throughout the year.

A very successful recruitment year culminated on March 14 with a 100% match for our categorical programs. New residents and fellows will be joining us from our home schools of Temple and PCOM as well as Jefferson, Drexel, Penn State, LECOM, U of Connecticut, Des Moines COM, Eastern Virginia, Georgetown, Kirksville COM, Loma Linda, LSU-Shreveport and -New Orleans, Mercer, Michigan State COM, University of Texas – Houston and -Galveston, U of N Texas – Fort Worth, Nova Southeastern, U of Vermont, Virginia COM, U of Washington, Wayne State, U of Wisconsin.

New curricula are underway in systems-based practice and practice-based improvement including the Quality Short Course (presented at the SGIM and ACGME meetings this year) and Physician Leadership in Electronic Health Record Implementation.

Our faculty has expanded dramatically. New Academic Affairs leadership includes Mary Elizabeth Roth, MD, Associate Chief Academic Officer, Wilkes-Barre; Frank Maffei, MD, Director, Medical Student Affairs; and John Boker, PhD, VP for Faculty and Curriculum Development who are joining John Bulger, DO, Associate Chief Academic Officer for Osteopathic Medical Education and me in welcoming you into a rich academic environment.
