In addition, our entire system is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

In 2001, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) described a “quality chasm” within the American healthcare system. In its widely circulated report, the IOM described six tenets for improving care. These principles of care—patient centered, safe, timely, effective, efficient and equitable…plus, unique to Geisinger, reliable, accountable and transparent—are the focus of everyone’s attention throughout our health system. Indeed, Geisinger Quality- Striving for Perfection is the responsibility of every Geisinger family member regardless of his or her role in the organization.
